About This Role:

The Sorghum breeding program in the Agronomy Department at Kansas State University is looking for a Research Associate to work on field, greenhouse and laboratory research activities related to sorghum breeding for enhancing productivity, stress tolerance and utilization attributes. The activities may involve all routine field and laboratory activities including seed preparation and treatment, operating farm machinery (tractor, planter), planting, pollination, harvesting and maintenance of seed inventory. This individual will work closely with the program leader, graduate students, technicians and undergraduate workers in the program. He/she will be expected to maintain healthy working relationship with collaborating programs in and outside the department. In addition to participating in the planning and implementation of the entire program activities, the candidate is expected to identify specific projects with in the scope of the program and conduct independent research that contributes to the overall goal of the program.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Masters degree in Agronomy, Plant Breeding or related field and two years of relevant experience

Preferred Requirements:

  • Ph.D. degree in Plant Breeding/Genetics
  • Experience with field crop research activities which includes but not limited to plot layout, see preparation, planting, pollination, data collection and analysis, seed maintenance of hybrid crops, hybrid seed synthesis and evaluation is highly desirable
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge in plant breeding
  • Ability to write manuscripts

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

$45,040 - $50,000 annually, salary commensurate with experience.
