About This Role:

The Department of Plant Pathology is seeking applicants for a Database Programmer / Data Engineer in the lab of Dr. Jesse Poland to manage ‘big data’ and project databases for complex high-throughput phenotypic data, large genomic datasets, field data, and germplasm resources for a large and diverse international research team.  The Database Programmer / Data Engineer will be expected to independently interact with team members across research projects and with outside collaborator research groups to learn and implement new database structures and help develop community database standards. Additionally, this person will assist in developing and maintaining interfaces for project databases and project websites. The successful candidate will work closely with other members of the lab and with external collaborators and stakeholders and will help create an environment that fosters collegiality, diversity and teamwork.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associates degree in Computer Science or closely related discipline
  • Three years of relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with database development and management including MySQL, Python, PHP, Perl
  • Data management experience including Linux shell scripting, transfer protocols and Python
  • MS degree in Computer Science or closely related discipline

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
