About This Role:

Applications Developers in Manhattan, Kansas

Perform back-end web development of software applications that drive web-based mobile applications for Kansas State University's College of Veterinary Medicine and the Kansas State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (KSVDL). Perform design and development of electronic submission form for KSVDL clients. Design and develop software to provide integration/interface for various KSVDL lab instruments with Vetview. Work with other IT team members to design and develop online Early Admit Application, similar to CVM admissions application. Assist in the design and development of Rabies Electronic Submission form in collaboration with KDHE. Maintain and update existing mobile apps for the VDL and the Beef Cattle Institute (BCI), as well as other existing web applications such as Scholarship, online admissions, and Test Center forms. Gather project requirements, translate to application features and develop technical documentation for the projects involved. Perform web/mobile design and development for all phone platforms and programing. Use TOAD for Oracle, MySQL, Oracle SQL Developer to design database schemas and develop stored procedures and write SQL queries/views for efficient data retrieval and storage; use Java/JSP, C#/ASP.net MVC, Web API to design, develop, maintain, and enhance applications and use JavaScript, JQuery, AJAZ, Java Spring, Angular, and CSS for data persistence and retrieval; use C++, Oracle Java, Hibernate ORM, jQuery, JavaScript, HTML, PHP and other programming languages to develop and write extensible, scalable, and testable code keeping in mind performance requirements of a project; modify existing software to correct errors, allow it to adapt to new hardware, and to improve performance; write API (application programming interfaces) and software programs to collect/share data with laboratory information systems and harvest data from diagnostic instruments; collaborate on architect data and service layers for a project and confer with programmers to design systems and create project limitations and capabilities, and performance requirements and interfaces; determine system performance standards and choose appropriate technology/data structures and algorithms based on specific tasks and requirements; develop and direct software system testing and validation procedures, create project requirements documentation, and test software and programs to ensure that all modules and sites meet user needs and standards; analyze user needs and software requirements to determine feasibility of design; design, build, and develop mobile applications using Java, Android Studio, SDK, and debugging tools; troubleshoot and analyze existing applications to ensure they meet quality standards; troubleshoot and resolve production data and software problems; design mock-ups and wireframes by translating project requirements into use cases based on software engineering practices and provide technical analysis and project estimation factoring both in terms of cost as well as time; design rich user interfaces using bootstrap and following best practices for responsive design; design and develop services to be consumed by various sources such as Android/iOS devices; design, build, and develop Hybrid mobile apps that target both Android/iOS devices by maintaining one code base using Ionic Framework and JavaScript; build rich user interfaces using various Android XML layouts; troubleshoot and resolve production data and software problems; develop and maintain applications as needed/requested; coordinate and implement changes to the applications with the IT team, faculty, staff, and administration; participate in Computing and Technical Support team assignments to provide application development and support; and prepare document project management workflows. Oversee geographic datasets and application development using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Participate in team meetings and discussions. May guide or oversee team members.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 3 years of relevant experience, including: web/mobile design and development for Android and iOS/hybrid phone platforms; relational database management; programming languages (C#, ASP.net, Java, JavaScript, SQL, HTML, PHP); and the following frameworks: .NET, ASP.net MVC, Java Spring, JQuery, Angular, and mobile.
