About This Role:

The Department of Agronomy at Kansas State University is seeking an assistant scientist to support the field, greenhouse, growth chamber, and laboratory activities of the canola breeding and research program. The individual will provide daily management of agronomic research plots, yield trials, breeding nurseries, self pollinations, crosses, and variety increases.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • BS in Agronomy or related field of study.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience transporting, operating, and maintaining agricultural equipment.
  • Experience in Great Plains and production agriculture.
  • Computer skills with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and web browsing.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Work efficiently on multiple projects simultaneously to meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Train and supervise undergraduate workers.
  • Work as a team member and independently.
  • Ability to understand and adhere to all protocols and regulations concerning production of genetically unique seeds.
  • Ability to work in varied environmental conditions that can change rapidly and unexpectedly.
  • Use of appropriate personal protective equipment while operating research equipment, especially while spraying.
  • Ability to lift seed and other equipment and tools greater than 75 lb.
  • Experience in a plant breeding program.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

$17.42 – $29.61, salary commensurate with experience
