About This Role:

Kansas State University, Department of Grain Science and Industry is seeking applicants for a Fellow Post Doc in the area of properties related to sorghum.  The Post Doc will support engineering activities related to the non-destructive measurement of sorghum grain quality, wheat and other grains.  Primary responsibilities will be developing methods to define end-use milling properties related to sorghum.  This will include examination of physical properties; kernel color, kernel size, kernel hardness, starch types and bulk chemical composition.  Other measurements include physical traits such as pericarp thickness, vitreosity, germ size, germ to endosprm ratio, and kernel morphology.  Hyper spectral imaging is one of the primary method to achieve this and the applicant should a have a strong background in this area, as well as grain quality in general.  Other responsibilities include preparing progress reports and manuscripts, and maintaining research facilities.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D in Agricultural or Biological Engineering or closely related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience and publications in areas of near infrared analysis, hyper-spectral imaging and chemometrics
  • Strong communication skills
  • Decision making
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Good technical writing

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
  • Able to work in a multi-cultural environment
