About This Role:

The Department of Personal Financial Planning (PFP), within the College of Health and Human Sciences, is currently seeking an Academic Advisor to join their team. This position is responsible for advising all students, on-campus and distance, pursuing grad certificates, master and doctoral degrees. The Academic Advisor is also expected to develop recruitment plans, communicate with prospective students, and travel to industry events. This position reports to the Department Head.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee graduate student applications in CollegeNet
  • Develop and implement student retention and support strategies
  • Create a successful onboarding program to support all new students in PFP graduate programs
  • Support graduate program directors in monitoring and following graduate school policies
  • Support students and faculty in completing required paperwork for the Graduate School
  • Assist in course scheduling review and initiation with Global Campus
  • Develop annual marketing and recruitment plan for graduate programs in collaboration with the College of Health and Human Sciences and Global Campus
  • Coordinate PhD summer intensive session
  • Support and communicate with current and prospective students in a timely manner
  • Help manage department’s central email account and phone inquiries

Our undergraduate program is growing, and our student teams consistently place in the top 3 programs at national competitions. Our doctoral students are excelling in the field and take a variety of academic and industry positions, including placements at peer-institution programs and business schools.

The College of Health and Human Sciences is home to six academic departments (Applied Human Sciences; Food, Nutrition, Dietetics & Health; Hospitality Management; Interior Design & Fashion Studies; Personal Financial Planning; and Kinesiology) and the Center on Aging. In addition, the college received approval from the Kansas Board of Regents to begin a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies program and to serve as a satellite location for the WSU nursing program. The College enrolls roughly 2,800 students (graduate and undergraduate) and employs more than 115 full-time faculty members in teaching, research, and Extension positions (https://www.hhs.k-state.edu/). What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • One year of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with K-State’s Personal Financial Planning program
  • Experience in advising online students
  • Experience in advising graduate students
  • Master’s degree in advising or counseling

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
