About This Role:

The successful candidate will be a leader who is passionate and   knowledgeable about serving quality food in quantity, applying nutrition science principles, creating a positive work environment, providing direction effectively to student and non-student staff, communicates well, leads by example, is engaging and enjoys working on a team in a high-energy and stimulating university foodservice environment with opportunities for professional and personal growth.

Competencies required in nutrition sciences/dietetics and food production and service management. Competencies also include, communication, interpersonal and intercultural relations, decision making, financial management, and coaching and leading.

Duties include:

  • Works closely with special dietary need students to provide them the information and tools that will help assure a pleasurable dining experience Assists in in food allergy training and process improvement implementation.  If RD/LD licensed, will provide nutrition counseling and food selection support to students with allergen or other dietary needs.  If non RD/LD, will work closely with RD/LD to provide nutrition care to residents.
  • Assists Unit Director in effectively directing a Dining Center foodservice with shared responsibility for customer service, food production management, building sanitation and warewashing, and general foodservice management tasks. Assists in directing dining services response to students’ with specialized dietary needs.  
  • Assists in effectively managing human resources.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with colleagues in Dining Services, all Housing and Dining Services (H&DS) functional areas, Food Nutrition Dietetics and Health (FNDH), Hospitality Management (HM), and the University.
  • Responsible for working with the unit management team to help FNDH/HM students learn skills related to the preparation and service of quality meals in quantity and management skills necessary for entry level practice/jobs.
  • Assists in effectively managing fiscal and facility resources.

  • Dining Services is led by a management team of registered and licensed dietitians including an Associate Director of Housing and Dining, Assistant Directors from two residential dining operations, and an administrative dietitian with responsibility for menu management.  Operations managers (some registered and licensed dietitians) with differing responsibilities are assigned in each residential dining center.
  • H&DS supports academic programs in the College of Health and Human Sciences (Foods, Nutrition, Dietetics and Health and Hospitality Management) through: undergraduate student placements in paid positions; graduate student placements; facility use for academic classes; professional staff teaching assignments; and various cooperative endeavors.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 1-3 years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a food service management, dietetics or related field.
  • One year experience in food service management, with emphasis on high volume feeding in a fast paced food service environment.

Experience may include foodservice positions held while in college.

  • College and university foodservice experience.
  • Computer skills in word processing and spreadsheets, preferably in Word and Excel and menu management software, preferably Computrition.
  • Prefer RD/LD or RD/LD eligible.
  • Prefer Current ServSafe Food Safety Certification.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to work variable hours.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
