About This Role:

At the heart of it all, our dynamic team works together to prepare safe, wholesome food for the residents and guests in the Residence Hall system at Kansas State University.  Cooks provide food production support to 5-6 different food and service platforms in a “from scratch” production environment.  We are currently seeking qualified applicants for the grill and Asian food platforms.  Available shifts are 10:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m. (grill) and 3:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. (Asian food concept). 

Duties and responsibilities include:

• Organize, assemble and prepare assigned menu items using batch cooking techniques and a variety of food preparation methods using standardized recipes.
• Trains and oversees the work of hourly student employees.
• Operate, clean, and maintain equipment and work areas in a safe and sanitary manner.  Complies with all cleaning and sanitation standards. 
• Evaluate HACCP and food safety activities and works closely with others to make sure all food is stored and handles in a safe and sanitary manner using established procedures.  Practices good personal hygiene.  
• Promotes a harmonious, productive work environment and participates as an effective team worker by cooperating with and assisting co-workers, sharing equipment, work space, and information.
• Perform other duties as assigned to include participating in team meetings, interacting with others in a positive manner that promotes a welcoming, cohesive, productive work environment.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

• One year of experience in commercial/institutional cooking.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Considerable knowledge of large-scale food preparation, equipment, health sanitation, and safety procedures.
• Versatility, a commitment to quality and the ability to engage with and work harmoniously with others.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to accurately weigh and measure ingredients, to use and care for equipment and handle food safely while preparing high-quality products.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

Starts at $14.50 per hour depending on experience plus shift differential pay of $.60 per hour for qualifying shifts.
