About This Role:

This position is responsible for providing exceptional food and service to the K-State campus and local community. The restaurant General Manager will have managerial responsibilities for Jardine Marketplace retail activities including JP's Sports Grill (JP's), JP’s catering services, and the Cornerstone Café at Jardine. This unique hospitality position offers an exciting opportunity to develop and coach a team in a “guest first” service culture while also providing a quality work/life balance that allows for generous time away from work during the academic breaks and holidays. Working shifts are primarily daytime hours during weekdays. This position reports to the Housing and Dining Services Associate Director of Retail Operations.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • PEOPLE MANAGEMENT! Recruit, train, develop, and supervise a diverse staff including service staff, cashiers, and cooks.  Provide coaching, positive leadership and support to staff, fostering a goal oriented team environment.  Effectively interact with staff to promote positive morale, a safe and health work environment and to develop and foster opportunities for employee development. 
  • Develops and implements systems to assure guests in all venues have a high quality dining experience with exceptional service, food, beverages, and atmosphere. 
  • Oversees food and beverage menus. Maintains production efficiencies, product sourcing, and keeps the overall customer experience at the forefront.
  • Collaborates with departmental fiscal staff to develop and apply systems for fiscal control and financial reporting. Maintains food and labor cost controls. Review and monitor labor costs. Ensure proper costing of menu items, catering functions, and special events. Maintains the highest standards for fiscal compliance.
  • Develops and maintains on-going culinary and sanitation training for staff. Ensures adherence to food safety and sanitation guidelines as well as safe work practices and procedures.
  • Collaborates with departmental staff to create and implement successful strategies to market venues for long term growth and financial success.  Maintains positive relationships with guests, staff and other campus partners to maintain positive relationships and brand integrity.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and three to five years of relevant experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years of progressive professional leadership experience in the hospitality field.
  • Management experience to include: management of a full service restaurant operation and supervision of staff to include assistant manager (or comparable) level.
  • Experience working in a University foodservice setting or other large volume operation (hotel or convention center, volume restaurant/catering operation) with demonstrated ability to coordinate food production, menu/recipe development and design.
  • Catering management experience.
  • Comprehensive understanding of materials, equipment, methods, techniques, and terminology used in a full service/large scale food service operation(s).
  • Experience using MICROS POS; menu management software, and proficiency in basic computer applications.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations relating to a foodservice operation and cost controls including payroll, food, other costs; general financial management of food service operations.
  • Master's degree in hospitality management or related culinary field.

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.
  • Ability to work variable work hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Must be 21 years of age at time of appointment.
  • Must obtain ServSafe certification within 60 days of employment.
  • Completion of TIPS alcohol training within 60 days of appointment.
  • Valid driver’s license at time of appointment.
  • Prefer certified trainer for TIPS alcohol training.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

$51,500 - $82,358 per year
