About This Role:

The Animal Sciences and Industry Department (ASI) houses the largest undergraduate degree program at Kansas State University with robust academic training for students that includes evaluation teams across species, products, and disciplines, along with undergraduate research, internships, and numerous clubs and organizations. We are seeking applicants for an Instructor in the ASI Department that will serve as head coach of our nationally competitive Livestock Judging Team and contribute to other aspects of our academic mission in areas consistent with the individual’s training, interests, and needs of the Department. The position will be located in Manhattan, KS.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Position Description and Responsibilities:  The successful individual will:

  • Coach nationally competitive livestock and meat animal evaluation judging teams
  • Assume fiscal responsibility for the judging programs
  • Teach courses and advise students in ASI
  • Engage in recruitment of future students while developing active relationships with industry stakeholders
  • Organize and conduct KSU Champion’s Livestock Judging Camps
  • Collaborate with the Department’s Youth Livestock Program, Communications Specialist, and Extension specialists to provide and deliver impactful content for Kansas youth and stakeholders
  • Support the overall mission of the Department
  • Work in a diverse and multicultural environment by fostering diversity and teamwork

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MS degree (at time of employment) with an emphasis in animal science or related field
  • Experience in coaching a livestock judging team
  • Evidence of being a successful team worker, able to foster diversity, ability to meet, interact and communicate with students, colleagues, staff, and other pertinent stakeholders
  • Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills
  • Commitment to the University’s land-grant mission

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of success in coaching at a collegiate level
  • Desire and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment and advance the University’s commitment to collegiality, diversity, and inclusivity

 Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
  • Access to a personal vehicle and the ability to obtain/maintain a valid driver’s license
