About This Role:

K-State Libraries seek a talented and innovative individual to manage one-time print and electronic monograph purchases. Following the May 2018 fire, the physical space in Hale Library was re-imagined to better support research and curriculum needs. The successful incumbent will serve by executing print and electronic monographic purchases from content development requests with broad latitude and responsibilities in choosing profile plans, patron-directed acquisitions, and other requests. Pursue professional development opportunities to keep abreast of vendor and system innovations. Serve on department and Library-wide committees as required, particularly those involving acquisitions issues.  

Kansas State University Libraries invite applications and nominations for the position of Acquisitions Specialist. This is a full-time position. This position reports to the Copy Cataloging Supervisor within the Metadata, Preservation, and Acquisitions Department.   

To be successful in this position, the incumbent must possess an ability to manage change and demonstrate excellent customer service, interpersonal communication, and organizational skills to establish and maintain productive working relationships with all levels of staff in an environment where flexibility and collaboration are essential. The candidate should also possess a strong commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity, and accessibility. 


  • Maintain responsibility for acquiring monographic print, electronic, and streaming resources, including workflow, procedures, and access. Provide support for firm orders, approval plans, and other evidence-based purchases.  

  • Manage business email account for monographs. 

  • Serve as local expert in the acquisitions of all non-package streaming media resources following best practices.  

  • Create and revise documentation to reflect all monographic policies and procedures, including streaming media resources. 

  • Monitor expenditures and fund accounts; prepare financial, statistical, and unit activity reports. Execute annual fiscal year rollover for all ledgers. 

  • Manage Analytics acquisitions reports (including monthly reports) and dashboard. 

  • Support, work closely, and cross-train with the Metadata and Preservation Units to develop shared processes and efficiencies. Assist the Metadata and Preservation Units as needed. 

  • Supervise Metadata, Preservation, and Acquisitions student employee(s) as needed. 

  • Work with the Textbook Affordability Program coordinator to provide acquisitions expertise and consult with the content development librarians. 

  • Work with the Alma and Primo System Administrators to provide acquisitions expertise.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree.
  • One to three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work with details. 

  • Demonstrated organizational ability. 

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. 

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, team members, and vendors. 

  • Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program or its equivalent. 

  • Experience in a library setting. 

  • Experience with unified resource management systems or other integrated library systems, especially ExLibris products such as Alma and PrimoVE. 
  • A strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in supporting a diverse workforce and serving the needs of a diverse population.

Anticipated Hiring Pay Range:

$40,576-$48,000 ($19.51-$23.08/hour)
