About This Role:

The College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a part-time Public Safety Officer. The position is responsible for providing for the safety and security of faculty, staff, students, and clients at the College of Veterinary Medicine. Hours will vary, but will include 7:00am- 1:00pm Saturday and Sunday and home K-State football games.  This position is classified as Limited Term.


  • As a security guard at the College of Veterinary Medicine. Duties will include, but are not limited to: Secures premises and personnel by patrolling property, inspecting buildings, equipment, and access points. Prevents losses and damage by reporting irregularities. Inform visitors and other personnel of policy and procedures. Responds to incidents and situations that arise according to policy and use clear judgement. Notifies Campus PD in the event of accidents, attacks, or other criminal activity and coordinate with K-State Police Department as necessary. Escorts employees to vehicles upon request. Challenges individuals in unauthorized areas without proper identification. Assists faculty, staff, and students during emergency situations. Provide a visible presence that enforces safety and security. Performs all duties in a safe manner and reports all accidents to supervisor immediately. Help develop and maintain visitor management protocols and procedures.
  • Completes written reports of daily activities by recording observations, information, occurrences, and suspicious activity. Build relationships with CVM faculty, staff, and students, so they know there is a security presence on property. May update security access for faculty, staff, and/or students. Troubleshoot electronic monitoring systems if/when issue arise.
  • Check property through electronic monitoring systems. Conduct exterior property checks for maintenance issues, malfunctions or hazard. Answer telephone calls to take messages, answer questions, and provide information during non-business hours or when switchboard is closed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years of security experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong knowledge of security environments and hazards.
  • Proven ability to be proactive.
  • Proven ability to work with a team.
  • Knowledge and understanding of security environments and hazards.
  • CCTV, intrusion systems and basic computer skills.
  • Able to act independently and to coordinate with other security personnel.
  • Ability to work overtime/weekends/on-call as needed.
