About This Role:

Kansas State University seeks a dedicated University Police Sergeant to act as the primary law enforcement officer on the Aerospace and Technology Campus in Salina, KS.

The incumbent in this position will be directly responsible for the safety and security of the campus. The position’s duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervising campus security and emergency management employees
  • Ensuring proper coverage of security officers and responding to crimes, complaints, and emergencies on campus
  • Providing on the job training to ensure compliance to departmental rules and regulations
  • Assuming command of crime scenes under investigation on campus, including collecting evidence, preparing reports, and communicating with all parties
  • Maintaining databases for both key and access control

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Three years of relevant experience in general law enforcement
  • Completion of a basic law enforcement training program recognized by the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Commission
  • This position may use an educational equivalency as determined by a hiring manager.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Police Officer Certification and training
  • Completion of First Aid, CPR, and AED trainings
  • Weapons and Taser qualifications
  • Ability to work closely with diverse groups of people
  • Ability to think quickly and handle stressful situations with a clear head

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.
  • Must undergo a background investigation to include fingerprint search of local, state, and federal files to determine whether a criminal record exists. Must not have been convicted of any state or federal crime of its equivalent.
  • Once employed, within probationary period, completion of CPR & First Aid is required & must be maintained.
  • Requires moderate physical exertion and transporting items up to 50 lbs on occasion. Must be able to walk long distances and remain on feet for an extended period of time.
  • Must have ability to use fire extinguishers, pepper spray, and other safety and security equipment as needed.
  • May require variable hours as needed for coverage.

Anticipated Hiring Pay Range:

$24.76 - $28.84 per hour, depending on qualifications
