About This Role:

This position connects with state and federal officials to advocate and generate support favorable to the interests of Kansas State University. The incumbent works with university leadership to develop a comprehensive federal government relations strategy and agenda and serves as a major conduit for communications between the university, congressional district offices and legislators. The Associate Director of Government Relations coordinates with the Executive Director of Government Relations at Kansas State University and reports to the Senior Vice President/Chief of Staff.

Worksite Options:

This position will be remote. Work will be performed primarily in Topeka.  Travel to K-State campus locations, Washington, DC, and/or local districts will be required.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of experience and education equal to nine years

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education – Bachelor’s degree in public administration, higher education policy, public policy, political science, and/or related field.
  • Experience
    • 5 years of successful government relations experience
    • Demonstrated success in working with the federal appropriations and policy making processes
    • Demonstrated success in high-level communication and organization
    • First-hand experience with and an in-depth understanding of higher education funding
    • Understanding of federal and state legislative processes
    • Demonstrated ability of communication and collaboration skills with a record of accomplishment of successfully interfacing with internal/external influencers
    • Demonstrated success at managing complex issues and relationships
  • Exhibits a strong commitment to the land grant mission of Kansas State University

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.

Anticipated Hiring Pay Range:

$95,000 - $122,000 annually
