The department of Diagnostic Medicine and Pathobiology within the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a Research Assistant Professor. This position will support current research and training activities in our arbovirology laboratory located in the high containment facility in the Biosecurity Research Institute.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:
|
Minimum Qualifications:
- PhD in virology, microbiology, biology, animal science, entomology, molecular biology or other related science.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Five years conducting research or diagnostics using molecular, immunological, or protein assays.
- Experience working with viruses in a research setting in vitro, in vivo and using molecular assays.
- Five years teaching experience at any level and one year instructing professionals and or adults.
- Ability to work independently and as a multicultural team member.
- Ability to manage and prioritize personal work tasks and projects within the confines of time and available personnel.
- Proven experience writing and editing peer-reviewed manuscripts and presenting research at local and national meetings.
- Ability to pass annual physical associated with work in high containment. This job has potential for safety hazard exposures and infectious disease exposure. Protective vaccines will be offered as needed.
- Ability to lift/maneuver large animals in a high containment environment.
- Basic virology skills: cell culture, PCR, qPCR, RNA extractions, PRNT, ELISA, etc.
- Basic animal skills: animal handling, necropsy, etc.
- Basic entomology skills: rearing, feeding, analysis – preferably with mosquitoes.
- Teaching experience with diverse ages, groups, skill levels, ability to use Canvas to post learning materials.
Other Requirements:
- Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.
- Ability to undergo and maintain a favorable background investigation and National Select Agent Registration security risk assessment.
- Ability to undergo and maintain a US Government security clearance if required.
