About This Role:

Responsibilities include complex building automation and management systems (BMS) that control and monitor BRI’s physical plant operations including utilities, heating systems, and the ventilation and air conditioning system associated with requirements for biocontainment and continuation of operations.  All activities and programs are to fulfill compliance requirements for local, State, Federal and Kansas State University policies, procedures, codes and regulations affecting biocontainment and facility operations of the BRI.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires one year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associated degree in HVAC or technical degree related to facility operations. This position may use an educational equivalency as determined relevant by a hiring manager.
  • More than 5 years of experience with Building Management Systems or compatible training.
  • Target education in mechanical engineering, architectural engineering, construction science, architecture, or related field.
  • Specialty target training with WebCTRL and Automated Logic is preferred.
  • Preference given to additional knowledge, education, or experience in the life sciences field.
  • Demonstrated experience in multi-tasking, customer service, leadership, supervision, and management of complex facilities organization with a diverse work force is highly preferred.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience with biocontainment or life science research programs and facilities.
  • Accredited technical coursework in related topics relevant to building automation and controls such as computer operating systems, electronics, heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC).
  • Ability to work with office personnel, researchers, laboratory technical personnel, external contractors and government agencies at all levels is required.
  • Personal computer experience with working knowledge of Windows-based software required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Carries cell phone and/or pager and responds to BRI emergencies 24/7.

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.
  • Must be able to undergo and maintain a favorable background investigation as well as ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance if required.
