About This Role:

The College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a Grant Specialist position to be responsible for all aspects of pre-award and post-award research administration at the department level by providing assistance to faculty involved in extramural grant and contract activities. Primary job responsibilities include proposal and budget development, monthly financial reporting to principal investigators, fiscal management of grant accounts, proposal modifications, and project closeout. Proposal development includes preparation of electronic proposals and requires review of compliance for federal and state laws and regulations, university policies and sponsor guidelines. Fiscal management of grant accounts includes monthly review of grant budget, budget projections as needed, cost-sharing reports, effort reports and assistance with procurement process for grant expenditures.
Assists faculty with the development and review of proposals for research instruction/training and public service activities, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, and the requirements of the sponsor. Identifies inconsistencies, consults with appropriate campus authorities and faculty members/department/research office and recommends how conflicts may be reconciled. Proposal development includes utilization of the various electronic commerce initiatives mandated by the Federal government. Address pre-award or post-award problems that arise in any aspect of college operations and make sound choices to resolve problems immediately.
Plans, constructs and reviews budgets for faculty members for proposed or continued projects in a manner acceptable to the sponsor, the University, and the State of Kansas, consistent with the planned project objectives set forth by the project director. Plans and outlines procedures and develops budget strategies (including cost sharing and budget justification) for major funding programs, communicates with and coordinates efforts of project directors and research offices at all of the involved departments/institutions, implements established plans and procedures requiring creative management and budgeting techniques.
Monitors grant accounts to maintain compliance with purchasing guidelines and regulations. Provide faculty with monthly reports. Assists faculty with single and multi-year budget projections to help coordinate projects. Advises faculty and staff on various matters concerning sponsored research activity such as fiscal matters, budgeting, re-budgeting and facilities and administrative costs; policies and procedures on purchasing, payroll, and accounting. Prepares and submits expenditure and/or sponsor reports as needed or directed by Sponsored Programs, sponsors, or administrators

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 1 year of relevant experience
- This position may use an educational equivalency as determined relevant by a hiring manager.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills including proficiency in multiple computer programs like Microsoft Office, and work independently as well as a member of the team
