About This Role:

Housing and Dining Services (HDS) seeks qualified applicants for the full-time, benefits eligible position of Locksmith Specialist. This position performs locksmithing at the journeyman level in HDS facilities that include residence halls, apartment community, dining centers, retail venues, off-campus honors house and guest housing, administrative and maintenance buildings.  A part of the Facilities Management, carpentry/lockshop team, the position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor Senior. 

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Plans and schedules repairs and installation of electronic and mechanical lock systems devices, door closures and door operators within HDS facilities.
  • Inspects, adjusts, repairs or replaces new hardware to maintain the security of students, residents, staff, guests, facilities, equipment, furnishings, materials and supplies.
  • Cuts keys, repins and rekeys a large variety of locks.
  • Manages a comprehensive re-keying program on a building rotation plan which includes Great Grand Master, Department Master, Floor Master, Maintenance Master and individual keying.
  • Maintains and repairs electronic locks. Maintain logs and detailed records. 
  • Complies with and adheres to the correct “keying” schedule so the completed lock cylinder is highly accurate and the new keys work in a smooth and problem-free manner.
  • Orders locks, cylinders, key blanks, panic bars, closers, and related parts. Maintains adequate parts inventory.
  • Operates sign making machine/system. 
  • Demonstrates the highest level of integrity, honesty and credibility. Interacts with students, staff, and guests in a manner that promotes a harmonious environment.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Requires six months of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Journey/advanced level experience in locksmithing
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Experience with electronic keying systems
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer technology

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.
  • Valid driver’s license upon employment.
  • Stand-by is required.  HDS living facilities require locksmith availability 24/7. Week-end and after hours standby rotation are shared between two locksmith positions. Callbacks occur regularly to permit access or security of contracted living facilities or to secure other departmental facilities.

$17.34 - $24.00 per hour
