The Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (KSVDL) within the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a Research Assistant. The person in this position will perform histology duties related to service and research. Duties will include trimming (grossing) of fixed biopsy and necropsy tissues, embedding tissues in paraffin wax, cutting tissues on a microtome, and preparing glass slides of the tissues in accordance with those QA/QC guidelines of an AAVLD accredited laboratory. Also, routine filing of slides, tissue blocks, data entry, operating and maintaining automated histology equipment, immunohistochemical staining, disposing of tissues, and updating standard operating procedures. Significant attention must be given to the KSVDL QMS (Quality Management System) and subsequent compliance. Working hours could vary as needed to meet customer demands for rapid turnaround times for biopsy submissions and could include working on Saturdays/weekends. The initial contract will be 6 months, with demonstration of proficiency in skills and contributing to a positive team environment at this time, this contract will be renewed annually after the initial time period.

Laboratory Technician Manhattan, Kansas
The Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (KSVDL) within the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a Laboratory Technician. This position within KSVDL exists to serve the needs of clientele/stakeholders (clients, faculty, residents, students, coworkers) in regards to necropsy and sample reception, and assistance with all activities on the necropsy floor. This position will oversee and manage all necropsy floor activities including scheduling for teaching and research, disinfection, adherence to biosafety procedures and protocols in accordance with the KSVDL quality system, management of student workers, maintenance of equipment, record keeping related to the above activities, and maintenance and oversite of the KSVDL bulk autoclave and tissue digester. This position will also serve as an assistant to pathologists in necropsy procedures and sample collection from other samples (i.e. rabies testing, BSE testing, CWD testing). Some flexibility may be required regarding work hours at selected/occasional times.

The extension office is staffed by four agents, two office professionals, and a nutrition assistant. Emporia, the office location, has a population of over 24,000 with seven smaller communities in the county. Emporia is located adjacent to the Kansas Turnpike and Interstate 35, and is home to Emporia State University and the Flint Hills Technical College. Lyon County and Emporia are centralized hosts for many regional events and serve as a trade center for many surrounding counties and communities. Extension agents are professional educators who serve as a link between Kansas State University and communities across Kansas. Agents are jointly responsible to the director of K-State Research and Extension (represented by a designated administrator) and the local extension board. This position will lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of research-based educational programming to build healthy, sustainable communities, families, and individuals. Programming will be conducted with volunteers and extension colleagues to: strengthen families and individuals; build community capacity; promote individual and community health and wellness; and lead volunteer development.
Cottonwood District Horticulture Extension Agent Hays, Kansas
The Cottonwood Extension District is comprised of Barton and Ellis Counties. Seven agents and several support staff serve the district, which has a combined population of 54,332. This part of the state is noted for its oil production, as well as manufacturing and diversified farming and livestock operations. The district is home to Fort Hays State University and Barton Community College. Extension agents are community based faculty of Kansas State University who make a difference by connecting community needs with university resources. Agents are administratively responsible to the local extension director and the local extension board. This position will provide primary leadership for the  development, implementation, and evaluation of research-based educational programming related to horticulture. Programming will include but is not limited to: horticultural crop production, marketing, and economics; horticultural waste management; landscape maintenance and improvement; and conservation of natural resources.
Southwind District Adult Development and Aging Extension Agent Other
The Southwind District is comprised of Allen, Bourbon, Neosho and Woodson counties in Southeast Kansas. The population of the district is 46,048. The district is home to Neosho County Community College, Allen Community College, and Fort Scott Community College, as well as ten public school systems. The Adult Development and Aging agent will establish a working relationship with community coalitions and develop educational programs that target the aging population. Eight agents and four office professionals serve the Southwind District. Extension agents are professional educators who serve as a link between Kansas State University and communities across Kansas. Agents are jointly responsible to the director of K-State Research and Extension (represented by a designated administrator) and the local extension board. This position will lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of research-based educational programming to support successful families and the systems that serve them in communities. Programs may include but are not limited to: chronic disease management, caregiving, intergenerational relationships, independent living solutions, long term care planning, end of life issues, and Medicare education.
