The Agronomy Department at Kansas State University is looking for a Research Assistant to work on field and laboratory research projects investigating cover crop and fertilizer management effects on water quality, erosion, nutrient loss, and soil health. Research will take place at the Kansas Agricultural Watershed field laboratory (www.ksu.edu/kaw) and on producer farms and will be used to develop best management practices for soil conservation and nutrient management. The Department of Horticulture and Natural Resources within Kansas State University’s College of Agriculture is seeking applicants for a full-time 12-month Research Assistant to be located at our Rocky Ford Turfgrass Research Center in Manhattan, KS. The Center is a 10-acre facility located approximately three miles from the main campus. As an essential turfgrass team member, the Research Assistant supports the research activities of the turfgrass team, which currently includes six faculty and seven graduate students. Duties include, but are not limited to: maintaining the center to an acceptable visual appearance; overseeing day-to-day operations; coordinating the establishment and maintenance of turf research plots with turfgrass faculty and graduate students; hiring and managing student labor; acquiring donations from turfgrass industry suppliers to support operation of the center; maintaining and repairing the buildings, grounds, equipment and irrigation; and complying with state and federal pesticide regulations as they affect the center. The incumbent will also occasionally assist with research projects conducted in the greenhouse and with teaching of laboratory sections of a basic turfgrass management course. Occasional overtime may be required depending on weather, special events, or research project requirements.

Research Assistant Professor (Diagnostic Medicine/Pathobiology) Manhattan, Kansas
This position will be responsible for conducting ongoing and urgent research focused on evaluating protective efficacy of patent-pending SARS-CoV-2 prototype vaccines in animal models. The person will also be involved identification of protective African Swine Fever Virus antigens, formulation of prototype vaccines, and conducting efficacy studies in pigs. Additional area of research will involve defining novel protective Bovine Parainfluenza 3 Virus [BPI3V] and BVDV epitopes, testing efficacy and cross-protection of novel mosaic antigens in cattle. Some efforts will also be directed at the development/optimization of Lateral Flow diagnostic tools and EliSpot readouts of interest for which there is no commercial products in the market. The on-going research projects supported by USDA, NIH, and commercial partners will utilize multiple live vector platforms, and studies will be conducted in animals models, swine, or cattle at BSL2/3 levels. Previous hands-on experience in molecular and cell biology, immunology, vaccinology, and animal husbandry is required.
