About This Role

The College of Health and Human Sciences (HHS) seeks an Academic Advisor to join their team. This position advises approximately 240 undergraduate students pursuing health science degrees in HHS. The Academic Advisor will advise students on their academic plans, progress, and academic goals to assist them in making personal education decisions and meeting graduation requirements. This position reports to the Assistant Dean for Student Success.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Establish and maintain relationships with program faculty and staff to understand college expectations and maintain current knowledge of HHS degree programs, curriculum changes, and requirements
  • Develop student success and retention tracking system for all advisees
  • Assist advising leadership with projects and collaborate with colleagues on initiatives to support student degree progress
  • Meet with prospective students and families
  • Represent programs at recruitment events in conjunction with campus events
  • Collaborate with HHS recruiters on working with high schools and community colleges to raise program awareness
  • Monitor academic progress of student caseload and proactively support student success through re-enrollment campaigns, retention initiatives, and graduation checks
  • Utilize SSC-Navigate to manage caseload and communicate with students, record advising notes, and oversee minor completion approval at the time of graduation
  • Advise new students during orientation and enrollment throughout the summer
  • Support student engagement at program events
  • Support and advise undergraduate curriculum committee and participate in HHS and university committees on recruitment and retention efforts
  • Support students in a range of areas, including but not limited to SAP appeals, completion grants, veteran certification forms, and requests for exceptions
  • Distribute job, internship, and networking opportunities to students

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • One year of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or certificate in academic advising or closely related field
  • Familiarity with Kansas State University
  • Experience in higher education advising
  • Possess extensive knowledge of university academic programs, policies, procedures, and student support services
  • Demonstrated competence in online advising and enrollment systems
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in working with individuals in a variety of situations
  • Ability to meet deadlines, be detail-oriented, and prioritize tasks
  • Adherence to strict confidentiality and other ethical standards
  • Strong computer skills

$48,000 - $60,000
