The Accountant I assists in all aspects of the Accounts Payable process. This position is a vital part of the audit team, vendoring team, and A/P processing team.

About This Role:

The Division of Financial Services is seeking applicants to join their General Accounting – Accounts Payable team. Applicants must apply accounting principles and handle work that is analytical, evaluative, and advisory in nature and which requires a basic understanding of accounting. Interested individuals are expected to have the ability to pay attention to detail and process a high volume of data.

This position is responsible for reviewing university payable documents within the University Expense Management tools. Payables will be reviewed for compliance with State and University policies and procedures. The review conducted includes verifying the accuracy of the expense type and regulatory restrictions concerning all types of payments along with monitoring requirements needed to process payment documents.

Reviewer must exercise a moderate amount of independent judgment and utilize knowledge of state and university policies to answer questions related to all payable transaction types. This position must also resolve discrepancy issues uncovered by working with departments to make sure the errors are corrected before the payment is approved.

Worksite Options:

This position is eligible for hybrid worksite. Work is performed partially remotely and partially on employer premises. This role is expected to work on-site approximately three (3) days a week.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a high school diploma

  • Ability to determine priorities, exercise sound judgment, and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail oriented and organized
  • Critical thinking abilities
  • Written and oral communication skills
  • An understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting skills
  • One or more years of relevant experience
  • Willingness to learn, to develop additional skills, and to engage in professional development
