About This Role

The Kansas State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory within the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a Diagnostic Technician I or II, based on qualifications. The person in this position will perform histology duties related to service and research. Duties will include trimming (grossing) of fixed biopsy and necropsy tissues, embedding tissues in paraffin wax, cutting tissues on a microtome and preparing glass slides of the tissues, routine filing of slides, tissue blocks, data entry, operating and maintaining automated histology equipment, immunohistochemical staining, disposing of tissues, and writing and updating standard operating procedures. As needed, cross training may occur in other sections. Significant attention must be given to the KSVDL QMS (Quality Management System) and subsequent compliance.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Diagnostic Technician I: Requires a high school diploma and two years of relevant experience.
  • Diagnostic Technician II: Requires an associate degree and two years of relevant experience.
  • This position may use an educational equivalency as determined relevant by a hiring manager.

Preferred Qualifications for both levels:

  • Certification in histotechnology, ASCP (histo-technician (HT) or histotechnologist (HTL)
  • Histology experience
  • Familiarity with laboratory tests and procedures
  • Working knowledge of chemistry
  • Familiarity with animal diseases
  • Interest in animals
  • Team player that maintains harmonious working relationships with co-workers and other employees
  • Positive customer service attitude

Anticipated Hiring Pay Range

Diagnostic Technician I: $16.76-$28.49 hourly

Diagnostic Technician II: $18.86-$32.05 hourly

Hiring manager will determine appropriate position level candidates will be hired into based on candidate education, experience, and department needs.
