About This Role

The Director of Contracts and Intellectual Property is a strategic leadership role responsible for managing and optimizing the intellectual property assets and other legal aspects of the university’s technology transfer and commercialization activities. The position is responsible for managing intellectual property related agreements and patent management functions, ensuring professional support of all licensing, technology transfer, and commercialization activities; and directing all compliance matters, internal and external, including federal, state, and non-profit obligations tied to intellectual property. This role involves overseeing day-to-day IP-asset protection and management operations, implementing best practices, and ensuring that agreement negotiation support and intellectual property protection activities align with organizational strategic goals, compliance management and financial decisions. The director will play a key role in driving efficiency, effectiveness, and innovation in the successful commercialization of intellectual property and research advancements.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher in Business, Law, Science, Engineering, or a related field.
    Advanced degrees (e.g., MBA, JD) or relevant certifications (e.g., CLP) preferred.
  • Ten or more years of experience in technology transfer, licensing or
    commercialization, with a proven track record of successfully managing high value IP
    transactions.
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, team leadership and contract
    negotiation.
  • Strong knowledge of intellectual property laws, licensing practices and
    commercialization strategies.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to
    engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with industry leaders, partners, and
    stakeholders.
