Kansas State University invites applications for multiple Information Technology Director positions, creating a distributed leadership structure that will collaboratively develop and implement strategic IT plans for the university’s colleges and major units in alignment with the university’s Division of Information Technology. These positions, which also perform supervisory leadership for all positions performing IT work within their respective college or major unit, will assist in:

  • Improving coordination and collaboration through a unified reporting structure.
  • Improving our ability to offer consistent technical experiences for our workforce, instructional spaces and research areas.
  • Implementing consistent training for our IT workforce to meet technical standards and best practices.
  • Enhancing cybersecurity practices and risk management through strategic oversight.

Application Process:

K-State is utilizing a cluster hire approach to fill eight of its IT director-level positions for several distinct colleges and major units on the Manhattan campus. Applicants will complete one application to be considered for any of the eight colleges/major units participating in this streamlined search process.

Worksite Options:

This position is required to be performed on-site. Work is performed on employer premises or designated assignment location.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 5-8 years of relevant experience 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in computer science, information technology or related field 
  • Experience in technology troubleshooting, assisting, and training 
  • Experience administering servers in small to medium sized server environments 
  • Experience managing IT staff members responsible for providing front-line support for hardware and departmental IT systems 
  • Experience conducting and directing research into IT issues and products 
  • Experience working in a higher education environment 
  • Experience building business case scenarios and working with technology allocation and budgets 
  • Extensive experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

  • Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language

Anticipated Hiring Pay Range:

Director   I  $  85,000 - 110,000 

Director  II  $  95,000 - 125,000 

Director III  $110,000 - 145,000
