About This Role:

The Identity & Access Management (IDAM) Senior Security Engineer is more than a technical expert; they are a pivotal resource within the university, acting as the primary liaison for departmental identity managers. This role is responsible for helping implement and continuously optimize identity and access management services in line with evolving technologies and security regulations. They are responsible for helping design, implement, and maintain IDAM technologies to ensure audit and privacy compliance, and drive automation wherever possible. This role will also assist with resolving any security issues related to IDAM operations.

Leadership and coordination are essential elements of this role. You'll drive cross-functional teams, facilitating discussions and serving as the subject matter expert. The Senior Engineer will also focus on the ongoing monitoring and maintenance of IDAM systems. This ensures not only optimal performance but also adherence to stringent security protocols. Additionally, as an authority in the field, you'll be tasked with developing and disseminating training materials to clarify processes, as well as offering expert advice on the latest solutions and best practices. Your contributions will be key in advancing the university's digital infrastructure securely and efficiently.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with IAM leads and IT managers to grasp business requirements, ensuring IAM solutions align with enterprise IT standards and operational needs.
  • Coordinate with technical and business specialists, understanding intended system approaches and ensuring alignment.
  • Partner with IT and security architecture teams, guaranteeing comprehensive security solution architecture development, refinement, and testing.
  • Interact with external agencies and organizations, including law enforcement.
  • Lead the technical development of IAM solutions throughout their delivery life cycle, liaising with service owners, architects, project managers, global infrastructure teams, and key IAM vendors.
  • Identify and develop Role Based Access strategy for various groups in the Organization.
  • Define solution components, factoring in enterprise architecture strategies, the current environment, and constraints.
  • Assess solution viability concerning project timelines, budget, and quality standards.
  • Ensure meticulous system documentation, capturing all modifications and updates for consistent tracking.
  • Oversee processes like provisioning, request approvals, deprovisioning, and custom workflows to ensure smooth operations across IAM functionalities.
  • Leads or participates in special projects or studies related to IDAM security.
  • Maintain an operational level understanding of identified security best practices and technologies, makes recommendations for adjustments, and promotes adoption.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience. This position may use an educational equivalency as determined relevant by a hiring manager.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree + 5 years of experience (preferred in computer science, information systems, business administration or related field).
  • Knowledge of identity and access management systems.
  • Experience in administration of user and role provisioning, connectors, workflow, certificate management, session management, and encryption technologies.
  • Expert level understanding of IT security standards and best practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a high degree of intellectual curiosity.
  • Ability to communicate and influence acceptance of new methods, work procedures, organizational relationships, etc., that affect the basic content and character of operations, relationships with other groups, and overall mission goals.
  • Ability to represent Kansas State University, within and outside the university, and to resolve different and entrenched viewpoints.
