About This Role

The Academic IT Support Specialist is responsible for providing comprehensive technical assistance and support to users within the College of Agriculture across general IT, laboratory, classroom, and audio/visual technologies. This role involves troubleshooting and resolving hardware, software, operating system, and IT application issues for faculty, staff, and students. The incumbent assists with system, hardware, software, laboratory equipment, printers, and audio/visual installations to ensure smooth operation of IT services and teaching and learning technologies. This role involves troubleshooting and executing resolutions for office, classroom, and conference room hardware and software, operating systems and other IT applications issues. The incumbent provides support to ensure that IT administrative, teaching, and learning technology services run smoothly. This is an on-campus position.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide telephone, in-person, and email support for successful use of technology.
  • Respond to, troubleshoot, and resolve technical problems for end-users in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, students, colleagues and vendors to monitor, design, and evaluate technology needs.
  • Provide guidance to users on the effective use of IT resources and applications; create documentation and training materials as needed.
  • Create and maintain user accounts, including setting up new employees with necessary IT equipment.
  • Identify user needs and independently research procedures for meeting myriad technology-related challenges, documenting and sharing findings.
  • Discover, vet, and test emerging applications and hardware solutions associated with classroom, multimedia, and related technologies; recommend modifications/new solutions as appropriate.
  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot computer hardware, software applications, configurations. audio/visual equipment, printers, specialized laboratory equipment, and operating systems.
  • Participate in designing and upgrading classroom, laboratory, and other learning space technology.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as software updates and system backups.
  • Comply with state, university, and departmental policies regarding the installation and use of technology.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma and one year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience in a technical support role or relevant internships is a plus.
  • Familiarity with common operating systems (e.g., Windows, macOS) and productivity software (e.g., Microsoft Office).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on customer service.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts and hardware components.
  • Familiarity with help desk ticketing systems and remote support tools is a plus.
  • Ability to transport up to 50 lbs. on occasion.
