About This Role

This full-time joint position is a .5 appointment as the primary administrative contact in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work, and .5 appointment in the Chapman Center for Rural Studies as lead administrative specialist. The position works closely with both Department Heads and program Advisors of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work to maintain the day-to-day operations of each unit.  The position will include maintaining department records and some student databases, grants management, assisting with basic department accounting, managing KSIS student permissions, managing the department BPC, submitting and tracking purchase orders, greeting department visitors and answering the department phone and email. This position also includes opportunities to work closely with local museums, develop programming, and work closely with students and faculty on research related to the Great Plains. This position is essential to the mission of the department and to Kansas State University.  

About Us

The Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Social Work is one of the largest departments within the College of Arts and Sciences and we serve approximately 450 undergraduate and graduate students. The department consists of a set of distinct but interrelated disciplines that includes Addictions Counseling, Anthropology, Criminology, Sociology and Social Work.  

The Chapman Center for Rural Studies is a Center for Excellence in the College of Arts and Sciences. We support Kansas communities by funding student and faculty research, engagement, and digital scholarship, creating original programming, and providing support for cultural institutions through internships and collaborative initiatives.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires one year of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years’ experience in general office, clerical or administrative support work.
  • Experience with a wide range of computer tools and software such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Power point), KSIS, Canvas, Qualtrics and Concur.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship
