About This Role

The Research Assistant Professor will work on Third Floor Research projects in the Staley School of Leadership. The research assistant professor will be a core team member of the Third Floor Research team with a primary responsibility to oversee research projects and coordinate with KLC monitoring and evaluation team. The research assistant professor will have opportunities to work on research that aligns with their interests and is related to the research/evaluation agendas of the SSL and KLC. Specifically, this research will measure the impact of leadership development programs at four levels: individual, organizational, challenge, and culture.


Job Purpose:

Oversee Third Floor research projects. to meet the following goals:

  • Provide KLC research/evaluation data, reports, and products
  • Provide regular communication to Third Floor Research team, KLC management team, and SSL administration on the progress of Third Floor Research projects
  • Provide ways to evaluate/research the impact of the KLC path
  • Teach leadership courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate level at the Staley School of Leadership

Job Duties:

  • Develop and oversee the KLC signature research project. (60%)
    • Collaborate with KLC and community partners to further determine research priorities
    • Coordinate with Third Floor director on strategic goals and quarterly KPIs
    • Participate in KLC’s all-staff meetings on a quarterly basis
  • Oversee and track Third Floor Research projects from design to dissemination
    • Oversee Third Floor Research student employees (20%)
  • Special research publications (10%)
    • In addition to scholarly publications, the Research Assistant Director will communicate research findings in ways that are not traditionally scholarly
  • Teaching courses in leadership communication with Staley School of Leadership, potential teaching with Kansas Leadership Center (10%)
  • Other activities of this position include professional development opportunities and representing Third Floor Research at events

Worksite Option

This position is on-site. Position is based in Manhattan, Kansas with travel to Wichita, Kansas at least once a quarter.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Education Qualifications:

An earned doctorate in leadership communication or related field

Experience Qualifications:


18 months of experience with leadership and/or civic engagement research and outcomes; and analyzing data and reporting on findings – through both traditional scholarly avenues and more public-facing reports.
