About This Role:

The Great Plains Diagnostic Network (GPDN) is seeking to hire a Research Associate to develop and validate molecular diagnostic assays for high consequence plant pathogens and to carry out molecular diagnostics of routine and regulatory plant and arthropod samples. Secondary responsibilities are to provide administrative support for day-to-day operations of the GPDN Regional Diagnostic Network, including active participation in regional and national network activities in support of NPDN program areas, e.g., diagnostics and communications.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Requires a master's degree and two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS degree in Plant Pathology, molecular biology, or related field with 2-3 years laboratory experience with contemporary molecular technologies (e.g., nucleic acid extraction, purification, and quantification, primer design, PCR and amplicon sequencing, real-time PCR, ELISA) and basic bioinformatic experience (e.g., sequence alignment and matching, ncbi blast); experience could include MS research.
  • Experience with good laboratory practices including, following SOPs, biosafety, biosecurity, and lab notebook and records maintenance, etc.
  • 2-3-years research or clinical experience with traditional and contemporary molecular plant diagnostics.
  • Some experience with project management is desirable.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as cooperatively and collaboratively.
  • Strong communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work well with a variety of faculty, staff and students who bring unique perspectives, viewpoints and experiences to our university community.

Anticipated Hiring Salary Range:

 $54,000-$70,000 - Salary commensurate with experience & consistent with the position sought.
