About This Role

The Kansas State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory within the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a Senior Research Scientist in Virology. The position is centered on enhancing the diagnostic capabilities of the rabies laboratory through the verification/validation and optimization of current assays, and the development of new, innovative techniques in rabies diagnostics. The successful candidate will focus on refining new serological and molecular assays to ensure they meet high standards of accuracy and reliability. This position will perform diagnostic testing in accordance with CLIA regulations and other QA policies, as well as provide technical training to other laboratory team members as needed.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a master's degree and three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in the field of immunology, virology or molecular biology.
  • At least two years of experience in a diagnostic or research laboratory.
  • Cross-cutting skills in immunology, virology and molecular biology.
  • Strong hands-on experience with virus neutralizing assays, cell culture and molecular techniques.
  • High level of precision in conducting experiments and maintaining laboratory records.
  • Strong analytical skills with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions, and instruct others in complex technical procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
