Kansas State University Olathe (http://olathe.k-state.edu) invites applications for a Program Manager to lead the scientific review process for ingredient definition submissions on behalf of the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO). This newly created role is essential in coordinating the submission, review, and approval processes, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and timely completion.

As the Scientific Review Ingredient Submission Program Manager (SRIS Manager), the successful candidate will be the primary point of contact for AAFCO and manage the subject matter experts (SMEs) to facilitate the scientific evaluation of ingredient submissions. The SRIS Manager will be responsible for managing the AAFCO grant budget, outcomes, and reporting regularly on progress. In addition, they will have the opportunity to support and engage with learners interested in regulatory affairs for animal industries.

K-State Olathe is particularly interested in individuals with demonstrated experience in collaborating broadly and working as a team member. Key Responsibilities:

A. Program Management & Oversite of AAFCO Submission Review Process

  • Manage the ingredient definition submission review process, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and adherence to deadlines.
  • Recruit and manage the subject matter expert (SMEs) database to include people throughout the United States. Communicate with the SMEs to assure all documents are completed and updated regularly. Identify SMEs who can serve on review panels to be presented to the SRIS director and/or the AAFCO/SRIS Steering Committee.
  • Manage SMEs contracts, billing and agreements.
  • Manages the scientific review process, ensuring data packages submitted for evaluation are complete, well-organized and meet all requirements.
  • Advise industry stakeholders during consultation meetings.
  • Manage discussions including providing detailed meeting minutes of review process discussions.
  • Write and prepare the scientific review reports based on panel discussions and SMEs reports. All reports will be reviewed and approved by SRIS Director.
  • Manage agendas, minutes, and members of the AAFCO/SRIS Steering Committee. Serve as the main liaison between AAFCO, SMEs, and the KSO team, facilitating smooth communication and collaboration.
  • Manage the AAFCO grant budget and assure outcomes are being reached. Prepare regular reports to submit to AAFCO.
  • Maintains a solid understanding of animal nutrition and ingredients to provide support throughout the review process
  • Attend annual AAFCO meetings and/or conferences as requested.

B. Learner Engagement

  • Shares expertise with learners interested in regulatory affairs for animal industries.
  • Communicates complex regulatory topics in an accessible and engaging manner.

Worksite Option

This position is eligible for hybrid worksite. Work is performed partially remote and partially on employer premises or designated assignment location. This role is expected to work on-site approximately three (3) days a week. Remote work is granted at the discretion of the direct supervisor. Additional details about potential hybrid work in this role can be discussed during interviews.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A M.S. or Ph.D. in animal nutrition, animal science, grain science, project management, or an agricultural related field, or equivalent scientific experience.
  • Successful experience working with subject matter experts (SMEs) or coordinating complex, multi-stakeholder processes.
  • Evidence of good oral and written communication abilities.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, particularly as it applies to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in using project management tools and software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, project management platforms).
  • 3 years of experience in program or project management, ideally in a scientific or technical setting.
  • Experience working with regulatory bodies or agricultural-related trade associations or in a similar industry setting.
