About This Role

This Veterinary Large Animal Nurse I (Limited Term) Intern position provides an opportunity for professional growth in the Veterinary Health Center. An outstanding graduate veterinary nurse will be selected to obtain high quality, enhanced technical experience and training through employment in defined specialty areas. Objective of this position is to enhance employee marketability for private practice and/or assist with obtaining two years of post-graduate experience to qualify for future Veterinary Nurse II openings in the VHC. This position is designated as essential.

Worksite Description

This position is On-site. Work is performed on employer premises or designated assignment location.

All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires the completion of a two-year college program in veterinary or animal technology accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). Must obtain a Kansas license as a Veterinary Technician within 6 months of employment. Completion of a two-year AVMA-accredited veterinary technology program is required for licensure in the State of Kansas and ensures that veterinary nurses possess the clinical expertise, ethical grounding and regulatory compliance necessary to deliver safe, high-quality care.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of experience in animal or veterinary technical support.
  • Ability to maintain and use ordinary veterinary medical hospital equipment.
  • Physically able to handle, restrain and provide medical services to domestic animals.
  • A working knowledge of operating room sterile technique procedures is preferred.
  • A knowledge of standard emergency veterinary medical procedures is preferred.
  • Ability to perform word processing and data entry on a personal computer.
  • Willing and able to master new techniques.
  • Demonstrated interest in a specific clinical discipline.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.

Additional Role Information:

  • Must be a registered paraprofessional under the authority of the Kansas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners within six months of employment.

Anticipated Hiring Pay Range
