Associate or Full Professor in Manhattan, Kansas
The Department of Diagnostic Medicine/Pathobiology in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University seeks applications for a 12-month, tenure-track or tenured Associate Professor/ Full Professor Faculty position with a primary emphasis in basic, mechanistic research on emerging and/or zoonotic bacterial or viral pathogens. This position will also serve as the Associate Director of an NIH COBRE Center (Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases; https://www.k-state.edu/cezid). The expected start date for this position is as early as January 2023. The successful applicant must have extensive experience leading a productive research program as demonstrated by: (i) longstanding support from NIAID, NIGMS or similar funding programs; (ii) a robust record of training graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and junior faculty; and (iii) high-impact peer-reviewed publications. Preference will be given to applicants that utilize animal models in their research and that focus on emerging and/or zoonotic infectious diseases. The distribution of effort for this position is approximately 60-70 % research, 10-20% administration, 5-10 % graduate teaching, and 5-10 % non-directed service. The Akhunov lab in the Department of Plant Pathology is seeking a Research Assistant to work in collaboration with the USDA wheat genetics breeding program to manage the greenhouse crossing and laboratory marker evaluation program for trait introgression into wheat. These are critical activities in the development of wheat germplasm with new traits or combinations of traits. The position provides leadership for greenhouse and laboratory operations, managing aspects of the breeding and selection. The record-keeping associated with the position is critically important to the success of the breeding effort. The position supervises undergraduate employees associated with the project, and the position provides liaison with the USDA-ARS genotyping laboratory and KSU Integrated Genomics Facility, which houses critical equipment resources.

This essential position within KSVDL exists to serve the needs of clientele/stakeholders (clients, faculty, residents, students, coworkers) in regards to sample reception, accessioning, and sample referrals. This position will oversee all USDA/NAHLN submissions and may also be involved in special projects dealing with client-oriented tasks pertaining to samples. This position will also be responsible for monitoring and maintaining inventory in the Client Services area. Some flexibility may be required regarding work hours at selected/occasional times.
