Assistant Professor, Sorghum Breeding and Genetics 12-month, tenure track position, 80% Research, 20% Teaching Position #W0007443 Location: Department of Agronomy, Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS 66506-5501 The Agronomy Department at Kansas State University is seeking an Assistant Professor to develop an innovative research and teaching program in sorghum breeding and genetics to address objectives that enhance the productivity, sustainability, and profitability of sorghum production in Kansas and the Great Plains. Responsibilities include leading a breeding program to develop and release new sorghum germplasm, parent lines, and hybrids. Areas of innovation could include germplasm characterization, application of functional genomics, statistical genetics, and applied molecular breeding approaches to sorghum breeding. Specific research targets may include abiotic and biotic constraints to production and pursuit of improvement for productivity and profitability. The presence of a large and diverse community of sorghum researchers with the KSU Center for Sorghum Improvement and USDA-CGAHR provides ample opportunity for cross-disciplinary collaboration. The incumbent is expected to develop an externally funded research program including the training of graduate students, peer-reviewed publication of research results, and promoting collegiality within the KSU and broader communities. Responsibilities include teaching courses in plant breeding/genetics, and the development of commercially relevant improvements in sorghum through public-private collaborations. The candidate must be able to work in a multicultural setting and create an environment that fosters collegiality, diversity, and teamwork.

Assistant/Associate Professor (Immunology) in Manhattan, Kansas
The Department of Diagnostic Medicine/Pathobiology, College of Veterinary Medicine, Kansas State University seeks to expand our expertise in infectious diseases of production animals and host-pathogen interactions by hiring an Assistant Professor or Associate Professor (tenure-track or tenured) with expertise in basic/domestic animal immunology. This position will be a 12-month appointment with approximately 70% research, 20% teaching, and 10% service appointment. The faculty is particularly interested in individuals with demonstrated experience in working across disciplines and collaborating broadly. Highest consideration will be given to candidates who also possess a strong background in cellular and molecular biology with investigations that are potentially synergistic with current College of Veterinary Medicine faculty interests in infectious diseases, vaccinology, inflammation, toxicology, cancer, public health, and food safety.

The Agronomy Department at Kansas State University is looking for an Extension Associate to work closely with Extension Specialists, and in collaboration with Agents, industry partners, farmers, and other stakeholders to coordinate and amplify the impact of extension educational programs. The Extension Associate will be crucial in facilitating, developing, and managing extension educational programs in agronomy. Identify emerging educational needs and propose relevant program topics. Support extension specialists in creating educational materials and resources, and promote extension events, workshops, and field days to reach a broader audience. Areas of work may include finding and refining topics for eUpdate articles, X (Twitter), Facebook, and other social media posts, fact sheets, and other Extension products. In addition, coordinating, planning, and leading organization of traditional extension programs such as winter meetings, crop schools, and summer diagnostic schools with a primary focus on program development, identifying relevant topics and presenters, including CEU credits for certified crop advisor and commercial pesticide applicator programs. Pursue opportunities for supplemental funding to support programs. This position will play a critical role in advancing the Extension mission of K-State by supporting the delivery of high-quality, research-based educational programs. The Extension Associate will be responsible for fostering relationships and contributing to the overall success of Extension education programs.
