About This Role:

The Kansas State University School of Music, Theatre, and Dance invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Music Education (Instrumental or Choral). This full-time, nine-month tenure-track position will start August 18, 2024 with a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in music education, including Secondary Methods in Music Education, Fundamentals of Music Education, Advanced Methods in Music Education, and others to be determined by departmental needs and/or applicant qualifications.

The successful candidate will coordinate/supervise student teachers and instruct student teaching seminars, recruit graduate and undergraduate music education majors, supervise graduate students and Ph.D. research, and demonstrate commitment to university service and research. Faculty within the School are expected to develop and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with area music educators, while maintaining an active research/creative agenda and visibility in professional organizations related to music education

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ph.D. in Music Education.
• 5 years teaching in 7-12 public school settings

Preferred Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience teaching at collegiate level.
• High level expertise (teaching ability, musicianship and scholarship) in either instrumental (band or orchestra) or choral education.
• Demonstrated experience developing/advancing choral, instrumental, and general music education curriculum.
• Experience instructing and mentoring graduate students in music education.
• Specializations in one or more of the following areas: instrumental or vocal pedagogy, assessment, equality in music education, psychology, differentiation and exceptional learners, mariachi, social justice, quantitative expertise, community-engaged performance practices, informal music learning.
• Demonstrated success organizing community engagement and outreach programming.
• A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and student success as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
• A background with online learning.
• Emerging or established national research profile in peer-reviewed conferences and/or publications.
• Demonstrated commitment to collegiality when interacting with others within the University community

Anticipated Hiring Pay Range:

Salary commensurate with experience and consistent with the position sought.
