About This Role:

The Veterinary Health Center (VHC) with the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for an Engineering Technician. A biomedical engineering technician will install and maintain equipment used in the Veterinary Health Center to ensure the safety, efficiency and effectiveness of the equipment is appropriate. They install, maintain, test, calibrate, and repair different types of equipment, and also teach others how to operate the equipment and provide ongoing technical support on biomedical equipment.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Technical Maintenance and Repair: Supports patient diagnosis and treatment by installing, testing, calibrating, and repairing biomedical equipment. Perform Preventative Maintenance (PM) inspections and scheduled maintenance on biomedical equipment. Repair, install, and calibrate complex and intricate biomedical equipment. Approves new equipment purchases and assist with installation, when appropriate. Coordinates equipment service, evaluates service contracts and works with Business Office to maintain equipment inventories and warranty/service plans for VHC equipment. Initiates outside repair requests, including the building of miscellaneous fabricated equipment (tools, gates, restraining equipment, etc.) with CVM Facilities, campus, and outside vendors. Prepares biomedical reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends. Obtains training as needed to provide support to current equipment and planned purchases.
- Inventory Management: Create and maintain a complete and accurate inventory database. Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the equipment database to include inventory, preventative maintenance schedules, service history, and equipment recalls. Responsible for ensuring all service and documentation is complete, timely, and accurate. Make recommendations regarding equipment purchases and appropriateness. Directs biomedical equipment operation by providing equipment operation demonstrations, instructing other healthcare staff in use and care of equipment and answering questions. Purchase supplies and equipment needed following the VHC procurement guidelines.
- Administrative / Management: Coordinate repairs with the service area to ensure patient care is not impacted. Discuss equipment status and functionality with clinicians and supervisors. Provide a positive representation of the VHC services by integrating the core values into job performance. Maintains supplies inventory by checking stock, anticipating needs, placing, and expediting orders, and verifying receipt. Interact with manufacturers to purchase or sell medical devices, products and surgical instruments. Build and maintain vendor relationships.
- Other: Adheres to the Principles of Community and Mission, Vision, and Values of the VHC. All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Requires an associate degree and one to three years of relevant experience. This position may use an educational equivalency as determined relevant by a hiring manager.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One to three years of equivalent experience working with biomedical equipment or degree / certification.
- Degree in technical electronics field or biomedical or certification from College of Biomedical Equipment Technology (CBET) or equivalent one to three years of experience.
