Kansas State University is committed to recognizing the sacrifices made by those serving in the Armed Forces by fully recognizing and honoring the State of Kansas Veterans Preference, the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA), and the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA).
Any person wishing to be considered eligible for a Veterans preference must submit a fully completed DD-214 form for the Veteran service member along with other application materials when applying for a position. Documentation will remain confidential and only be used to verify eligibility for the preference. Documentation must be submitted by the closing date noted on the position announcement.
If they meet the minimum qualifications of the position and submit all required application materials, they will receive a first-level interview for the position. The preference does not guarantee that an applicant will be hired, as positions are filled with the best qualified candidate as determined by the hiring manager.
A person who wishes to utilize the preference will submit a copy of their DD-214 along with their application materials. Kansas State Law – K.S.A. 73-201 provides veterans preference for veterans who separated honorably from the armed forces under honorable conditions.
Applicants who have physical, cognitive and/or mental disabilities may claim an interview preference when applying for certain eligible positions. If the applicant meets the minimum qualifications for the position, can perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation(s), submits qualifying documentation, and submits all required application materials, they will receive a first-level interview for the position. The disability interview preference does not guarantee that an applicant will be hired, as positions are filled with the best qualified candidate as determined by the hiring manager.

Any person wishing to request this interview preference will only need to submit documentation one time. If verified, they will be eligible for the disability interview preference for all future applications for eligible positions.
To request an interview preference, follow the steps in the application form. If you already submitted an application for a qualifying position and you would like to request an interview preference, please email KStateCareers@k-state.edu. If the position is still open and accepting applications as noted by the closing date on the job advertisement, and your application is still in search committee review as noted in your PageUp applicant account, an additional information form with instructions will be sent to you. The additional information form and all supporting documentation must be submitted by the closing date on the job advertisement.
Kansas State University honors interview preferences for qualified applicants who are veterans or individuals with disabilities. Eligible applicants who meet the minimum qualifications, submit all required application materials, and submit required preference documentation will be granted a first-level interview.
The disability and veteran interview preferences do not apply to student employment positions, temporary positions, athletics positions, academic and administrative department heads*, positions that require licensure as a physician, and positions that require that the employee be admitted to practice law in Kansas.
*Heads of Departments refers to any individual holding a primary leadership role responsible for the overall strategic direction, management and operational oversight of a recognized academic or administrative unit within the university.
