About This Role:

Join the dynamic team of academic advising professionals in K-State Online Student Success and Advising to provide advising for current students in K-State Online programs, including business, social sciences, and others, in shared efforts to retain and advance students in online undergraduate bachelor’s programs.

The successful candidate will:

  • Utilize excellent interpersonal communication and relational skills to help students reach their career and academic goals
  • Engage in collaborative advising conversations with online learners while assisting them in academic and course planning, professional preparation, and connections to university resources
  • Understand the characteristics and needs of adult online learners, and best practices for advising online students to identify issues and make appropriate referrals.
  • Work closely with partner colleges and the online team of academic advisors to coordinate communications and advising practices to students.
  • Utilize various student information systems to assess student progress and record contacts in digital notes systems.
  • Collaborate and meet regularly as part of the student success and advising team.

The Online Academic Advisor reports to the Director of Online Student Success & Advising in the department of Academic and Career Engagement within the División of Academic Success and Student Affairs.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • One year of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in either Academic Advising, Adult and Continuing Education, College Student Development or Counseling and Student Development (experience may be substituted for discipline specific requirements)
  • Three (3) or more years’ experience advising students in a higher education environment.

    • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Proven record of organizational skills
    • Familiarity with educational technologies
    • Ability to effectively communicate with diverse groups of people
    • Ability to work in diverse and changing environments
    • Ability to work independently
    • Ability to meet deadlines, be detail oriented, and prioritize
    • Excellent customer service skills
    • Strong personal computer skills
    • Familiarity with student information systems and learning management systems
    • Knowledge and understanding of distance education and needs of online learners
    • Understanding of academic advising principles, theory and practice.

Anticipated Hiring Pay Range:

$42,216.000 - $53,819.000 annually ($1,623.693 - $2,069.962 bi-weekly)
