About This Role

The Department of Housing and Dining Services (HDS) seeks qualified applicants for an Accountant I to join our financial operations team. This full-time position offers the opportunity to collaborate with others and participate in accounting work critical to the success of a large, complex, self-operated department. HDS is a $50M operation serving more than 4,500 residents. Duties and responsibilities include:

• Manage and track $2.0M non-student accounts receivable process, from invoicing through payment and reconciliation.
• Process and reconcile accounts payable for key revenue generating areas and process interdepartmental transactions.
• Monitor outstanding balances and assist with collection efforts.
• Reconcile revenues, expenses, and account balances across multiple systems.
• Prepare journal entries, reports, and financial records.
• Support budgets and purchasing for student and educational programs.
• Process Dining Dollar redemptions and related vendor payments.
• Process Foundation payments, reimbursements, scholarships, and awards.
• Maintain accurate electronic financial records and documentation.
• Work with university staff, students, vendors, and external organizations.
• Learn and apply university and state financial policies and procedures.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a high school diploma (or equivalent) and one year of relevant experience. Requirements may be met through a combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance or related field
  • Two years accounting/auditing experience or minimum three years in an accounting role requiring familiarity with university, state or federal accounting compliance and GAAP principles, including revenue accrual and reconciliation procedures.
  • Cash handling experience, including auditing cash funds in a retail environment.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft, Oracle, Sap or other similar large ERP financial system.
  • Familiarity with document imaging systems and records retention policies.
  • Ability to interact and communicate effectively with others, including giving direction to student staff and student organization officers.
  • Ability to communicate tactfully when contacting receivables customers with outstanding balances.
