The Accountant I plays a key role in providing direct accounting support to the Shared Services Business Manager and collaborating with the Shared Services team. This role involves processing accounts payable and receivable transactions, accurately posting them in the accounting system, assisting faculty and staff with accounting-related inquiries, and managing the Shared Services portal alongside other team members.
The position requires the exercise of independent discretion and judgment, such as organizing tasks to meet deadlines while adhering to university and departmental policies. The incumbent must ensure compliance with rules and regulations, complete necessary training, and oversee procurement cardholder responsibilities. Additionally, the role involves making purchasing decisions on behalf of the department or faculty, requiring discretion to ensure cost-effectiveness and compliance with policies. The incumbent must also evaluate budgets across multiple accounts and use sound judgment to align spending with available resources.
