Information about the Department:

The Department of Anatomy and Physiology is multi-disciplinary with responsibilities in instruction, research, service and continuing education including the disciplines of gross and microscopic anatomy, cell and systems physiology, pharmacology, toxicology and neuroscience. Research strengths in the department include: epithelial physiology, electrophysiology, exercise physiology and heart failure, animal welfare and pain management, neuroscience, stem cell biology, toxicology, teaching methods, and veterinary clinical pharmacology.

Job Description:

The successful candidate will be passionate about teaching professional, preprofessional, and graduate students and excited about pursuing best practices in teaching and developing innovative, student-centered teaching techniques. The successful candidate will devote at least 50% of their time to developing and delivering didactic lectures and laboratories to veterinary and graduate students in support of the teaching mission of the department. This position will be expected to devote up to 45% of assigned effort to developing a collaborative research program that complements current research in the department.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in physiology, biochemistry, or related field (alternate qualifications may include a DVM or MD with graduate training).

Experience teaching at the undergraduate, graduate, and/or professional level.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in teaching professional students in veterinary or medical physiology is preferred but not required.

Demonstrated excellence in teaching through student or peer evaluations or other mechanisms is preferred.  

Background in and desire to teach cell physiology and basic biomedical and diagnostic laboratory techniques is preferred.

An established track-record of extramural funding success will be a prerequisite to be considered for a tenured position.

The successful candidate must have strong written and oral communication skills in addition to experience with scientific research techniques in the lab and field.

Candidates should enjoy working individually and as a team in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary research environment.
