About This Role

The CARE Survivor Advocate provides confidential advocacy and support to students, faculty, and staff who are survivors of sexual violence, dating/domestic violence, sexual harassment, and stalking. This position will also assist office staff in raising awareness about power-based violence on campus and connect survivors to on-campus and community services and reporting processes. The Survivor Advocate supports multiple clients throughout campus.

About Us

The Center for Advocacy, Response and Education (CARE) provides confidential, free, and voluntary services and advocacy for survivors of sexual violence, dating violence, stalking, and sexual harassment. Founded in 1973 as the Women's Center, CARE provides quality direct services to students, staff, and faculty impacted by sexual and interpersonal violence.
 
CARE Survivor Advocates are available to assist survivors in understanding and navigating university policies and procedures and help promote the academic success and personal wellness of survivors. CARE Survivor Advocates are also available to the greater K-State community to provide education, training and facilitated conversations around the aforementioned and related topics.
 
The Center for Advocacy, Response, and Education provides assistance for those in our K-State community who have been victimized by violence. We can assist survivors who may need help with law enforcement, legal or medical assistance, mental health, and academic concerns.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  •  High school diploma
  •  One year of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health promotion, social work, family studies and human services, gender studies, sociology, criminal justice, or related field.
  • Experience working as a survivor advocate or in a support service capacity - for those impacted by trauma preferred.
  • Working knowledge of crisis and/or trauma-related interventions appropriate for late adolescent and adult development.
  • Knowledge of campus violence education and response best practices.
  • Ability to accurately ascertain the seriousness of an emergency/crisis situation and to project a calm demeanor in crisis situations.
  • Exposure to individuals from other cultures and countries.
  • Knowledge of power-based violence and social justice including knowledge of legislation related to power-based violence on campuses (Title IX, Campus SaVE Act, etc.)
  • Ability to plan events, organize and deliver support services; reach under-served populations (people of color, LGBTQ, individuals with disabilities, and non-traditional students); intervene appropriately in crisis situations.
  • Demonstrated ability in outreach and program development.
  • Ability to thoroughly document support services and actions regarding case management.
  • Excellent presentation and advocacy skills.
  • Computer skills and good working knowledge of Word processing software including MS Word and Excel.
  • Exposure to individuals from other cultures and countries.

Anticipated Hiring Pay Range

$20.4327 - $21.5688 per hour ($42,500.016-$48,863.104 annually)
