The Division of Biology is seeking to hire a Postdoctoral Scientist who will focus on developing movement and population models for mule deer and white-tailed deer in Kansas. This position will also focus on modeling lesser prairie-chicken population responses to changes in the distribution and availability of Conservation Reserve Program lands throughout the species’ range in Kansas.
This position begins in August and is a 12-month term appointment renewable after one year, depending on available funding and demonstrated progress.
The Division of Biology at Kansas State University is composed of a dynamic group of tenure-track, research, and instructional faculty, as well as a large number of postdoctoral research associates, graduate students, and support staff. All of these individuals are essential to accomplish the Division of Biology’s mission, to generate and disseminate high-quality biological scientific knowledge through teaching, research, service, and outreach. The research, teaching, and service interests of these individuals, spanning all areas of biological research, teaching and training at the postdoctoral, graduate, and undergraduate levels, as well as service and outreach contributions to the broader scientific community and the public.
This position is On-site.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in Biology, Natural Resources, Statistics or equivalent field. Demonstrated quantitative and modelling skills. The degree requirement is necessary to ensure candidates possess the specialized knowledge, skills and abilities that can only be attained through a formal educational program at this level.
• Valid driver's license
• Familiarity with acquiring aerial imagery and managing large data sets.
• Working knowledge of ESRI geodatabases and ArcPro, including ability to create and maintain feature class relationships.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience using statistical software - understanding of ecological concepts, movement models, and space use estimates
• Publication record, including topics such as animal movement ecology and resource selection
• Previous experience with telemetry data from mule deer, white-tailed deer, lesser prairie-chickens, greater prairie-chicken, and other prairie species.
• Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to interface with a variety of site users at Fort Riley.
• Must be able to work in a collegial manner with military personnel and colleagues in a large and modern military setting.
