Fire Inspector

The position performs required inspections and testing of fire emergency equipment in compliance with state adopted fire codes. The position assists with assurance measures for other applicable State and Federal regulations and titles affecting higher education institutions. Position provides assistance with cursory inspection of key areas in compliance with regulations for life safety, occupational safety and health, and environmental protection, but the position's primary role is required in response to stipulations of the international fire code and additional fire safety requirements mandated by the State of Kansas. Worksite Description

This position is On-site.

All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires two years of relevant experience and Fire Inspector I certification. Requirements may be met through a combination of education and experience. Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience reading and interpreting fire code.
  • Experience conducting building emergency system testing as described in the position duties.
  • Familiarity with fire and life system systems.
  • Basic experience with building electrical systems.
  • Current 40 HazWoper certification.
  • Experience in a higher education setting.
  • Basic computer skills - (i.e., ability to use PC, laptops, tablets, and handheld barcode or other scanners. Able to download data from these systems. Able to use databases for entry and data look up. Able to communicate via email).
  • Demonstrated verbal communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work autonomously to complete required testing and inspection.
  • Education or training in electrical/mechanical systems.

Additional Role Information:

  • Respond as needed for the Emergency Response Team. Post offer/pre-employment medical evaluation to assess and verify fitness for assigned duties (ability to climb and carry ladders and physical demands as described herein (i.e., physical demands section).
