About This Role

The successful candidate will be a leader who is passionate and knowledgeable about serving quality food in quantity, applies nutrition science principles, creates a positive work environment, effectively provides coaching and direction to student and non-student staff, communicates well, is engaging, intellectually curious, and enjoys working on a team in a stimulating university foodservice environment with opportunities for professional and personal growth.

Duties include:

  • Works directly with special dietary need students to assure their dining experience is satisfactory and their food safety needs are met. Assists in food allergy training and process improvement implementation. Provides nutrition counseling and assures food safety for student residents with special dietary needs.
  • Assisting Unit Director in effectively directing a Dining Center foodservice with shared responsibility for customer service, food production management, building operations, and general foodservice management tasks.
  • Assisting in effectively managing human resources. Developing employee education programs that promote job success and employee growth. Preparing and delivering employee evaluations and other documents as required.
  • Assisting in effectively managing fiscal and facility resources.
  • Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues in Dining Services and all departmental functional areas.
  • Serves as mentor to student employees in their roles as undergraduate management assistants.
  • Responsible for working with the unit management team to support partnerships between H&DS and academic colleges/programs.

About Us

  • Housing and Dining Services (H&DS) is a self-operated department with four functional areas: dining services, administrative services, facilities management, and residence life. Two residential dining centers serve students living in 10 residential halls, two small residential houses and an on-campus apartment complex.
  • Dining Services is led by a management team including an Associate Director of Housing and Dining, Assistant Directors from two residential dining operations, and an administrative dietitian with responsibility for menu management and a purchasing director. Foodservice Operations Managers (to include registered and licensed dietitians) are assigned in each residential dining center.
  • H&DS supports K-State academic programs through collaborative projects and supports students via employment opportunities, programming, and helping sustain a dining program rated continually by Princeton Review as one of the best in the nation.

Worksite Option

This position requires on-site work.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree and one to three years of relevant experience. This position may use an educational equivalency as determined relevant by a hiring manager.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • RDN/RDN eligible degree and one to three years of relevant experience.
  • One year experience in food service management, with emphasis on high volume feeding in a fast paced food service environment.
  • Experience may include foodservice positions held while in college.
  • College and university foodservice experience.
  • Computer skills in word processing and spreadsheets, preferably in Word and Excel and menu management software, preferably Computrition.

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment
  • Requires RDN/RDN eligible
  • Food Safety Certification
  • Ability to work variable hours, including evenings and one day every third weekend

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship.
