About This Role

Pre-Professional advisors are engaged and committed to applying advising best practices within a collaborative and supportive environment that prepares students to become competitive professional school applicants. The center provides specialized advising to all students, serving prospective students, current students, and alumni on how to achieve their health professional-school goals. Guidance and programing is provided to encourage students to explore and prepare for a competitive application to professional school programs such as medicine, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistant, dental, occupational therapy, nursing, veterinary medicine, and more.

Guided by the fundamental principle that all students have the potential to earn a degree, academic advisors at K-State build trusting relationships with students, helping them navigate degree requirements, make meaning of their college experience, and plan for post-graduation experiences. Advisors teach students skills for self-understanding and agency, adapt their approach to each student, and connect students to resources. Advisors support student success within the context of the mission of the university, college, and department.

About Us

The Pre-Professional and Exploratory Advising Center provides guidance and programming to encourage students to explore professional fields and prepare for a competitive application to professional programs such as law, medicine, pharmacy, physical therapy, physician assistant, dentistry, occupational therapy, nursing, veterinary medicine and more.

Worksite Description

This position is On-site. This position is on-site. The responsibilities of the role are expected to be performed on-site approximately four (4) days a week.

Remote work is granted at the discretion of the direct supervisor. Additional details about potential hybrid work in this role can be discussed during interviews. An employee who is working remotely must reside within the United States to comply with all federal and state laws, filings, or tax requirements. What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • One year of relevant experience.

    Education beyond the minimum degree requirement may count toward required experience if deemed relevant by the hiring manager. The degree requirement ensures candidates possess the foundational knowledge in educational theory, student development and institutional policy interpretation essential to effective academic advising. These competencies are typically developed and rigorously validated only through the comprehensive curriculum and intensive experiential learning inherent in a formal degree program.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree
  • Professional work experience in a health profession
  • Experience in academic advising
  • Experience helping students search for job and/or graduate/professional school opportunities
  • Experience teaching in a higher education setting
  • Experience in student services or related education/experience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Proficient in using student success technologies and Microsoft Office suite
  • Collaborative and responsive to feedback
  • Responsive and attentive to detail
