About This Role:

The Network Administrator will work as part of the network team in the areas of design, modification, maintenance, troubleshooting, and documentation of a large enterprise network.  This position will include both design and management responsibilities for both Cisco and Aruba network gear, including routers, switches, wireless infrastructure, and network support servers.  Responsibilities also include working collaboratively with IT units and the campus community to provide a stable, robust, and secure network environment at K-State.

Job Responsibilities include:

Manage Network Infrastructure and Related Systems

  • Participate in the planning, design, implementation, maintenance, and documentation of a large enterprise network, including core and datacenter technologies, wired and wireless infrastructure, and other critical network services
  • Support the enterprise network at Kansas State using best practices to maintain a production environment 24 hours/day, 7 days a week 
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot switches and routers, wireless infrastructure, and UPS infrastructure in routed LAN/WAN environments
  • Maintain dhcp, monitoring, backup, syslog, and performance servers
  • Troubleshoot existing infrastructure as needed, and take corrective actions to eliminate problems as they occur
  • Develop and maintain network systems documentation

Participate in Network Monitoring and Troubleshooting

  • Develop and employ monitoring/troubleshooting tools to identify network issues, monitor network utilization, and make recommendations for future growth throughout the environment
  • Develop traffic optimization strategies, including QoS, multicast, video-streaming, wireless management, and other technologies

Conduct Research and Analysis

  • Evaluate and recommend new and evolving network technologies, and make recommendations when applicable to support the university’s mission
  • Work with end-users to evaluate new technologies that require network support

After Hours Support

  • Be available for after hours on-call support rotations.
  • Be available for after-hours maintenance schedules as needed.

Assist with Security Issues

  • Assist with securing campus IT resources and responding to security incidents
  • Work with the IT Security Office to implement security policy and respond to security incidents

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree.
  • Experience in design, implementation, and management of a large enterprise with specific experience on multiple Cisco Nexus and Catalyst platforms, and Aruba CX switching
  • Current network certifications, such as Cisco CCENT, CCNA, CCNP or Aruba ACSA, ACSP, ACMA, ACMP
  • Experience in supporting data center technologies, such as cloud implementations in AWS and Microsoft Azure, VMWare, virtual switching, and storage. 
  • 3 or more years experience in the design and maintenance of controller based wireless networks, utilizing Aruba or Cisco platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to manage network support servers, such as DHCP, TACACS, performance monitoring, backups, and syslog
  • Demonstrated proficiency managing and utilizing network monitoring and troubleshooting tools, such as Nagios, Grafana, Cacti, SolarWinds, NetBox, Wireshark, and log analyzers
  • Demonstrated experience with IPV6 conversions
  • Experience with project and change management practices
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the OSI model network fundamentals; specifically, Layer 2 switching and Layer 3 routing
  • Demonstrated knowledge of network protocols; e.g. TCP/UDP, ICMP, SNMP, ARP, DHCP, and routing protocols
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the configuration, management, and troubleshooting of enterprise-level switches, routers, wireless controllers, and UPS infrastructure
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours
