About This Role

This positions is responsible for providing short term individual, couple, and group therapy; conducting initial assessments, intakes, and crisis sessions, providing referrals and bridging care to the community as needed; providing supervision and training for doctoral interns; consulting with students, faculty, and staff regarding mental health issues; participating in outreach activities to the campus community and other tasks as requested by our Associate Director. Occasional after hours and weekend work is required. The position reports to the Associate Director of Lafene Counseling & Psychological Services, which is a part of the Division of Academic Success & Student Affairs.

About Us

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) within Lafene Health Center is a comprehensive, short term mental health service located on the campus of Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. Current staff consists of licensed psychologists, licensed couple and family therapists, licensed professional counselors, licensed clinical social workers, psychology interns, and practicum students. CAPS is an APA accredited training site for doctoral interns and a practicum site for students in K-State's Couples and Family Therapy program and potentially other external degreed therapy programs within the mental health field. The principal function of CAPS is to support K-State students through the process of decision making, crisis intervention, and personal skill building. Education, outreach, and prevention are an important part of our function and operations. These endeavors are coordinated by and are conducted in concert with Lafene Health Center.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Counseling or Clinical Psychology or equivalent mental health field from an APA-accredited program.

  • Qualified for psychologist licensure by the State of Kansas Behavioral Sciences Board. Licensure in Kansas to be obtained within a negotiated time frame.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one year of work-related experience at a college or university counseling center.

  • Experience and/or interest in the LGBTQIA+ community, health psychology, eating disorder treatment, group therapy, etc.

  • Two years post-licensure experience.

Other Requirements:

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at the time of employment.
  • Qualified for psychology licensure by the State of Kansas Behavioral Sciences Board; licensure to be obtained within a negotiated timeframe.
