About This Role

Kansas state University and the Department of Entomology seeks a Research Assistant. A core laboratory facility has been created in the Department of Entomology called the Integrated Molecular Entomology Core which will provide technical support and maintain access to state of the art equipment for molecular studies. The core lab is in need of a research assistant to help the director to maintain, operate, and train others on the lab equipment, provide technical support, and help maintain compliance with institutional safety requirements and guidelines.

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Research support (performing experiments, rearing insects, providing data/background for publications, ordering supplies).
  • Core laboratory support (maintain equipment, train users on equipment).
  • Ensuring compliance with safety and environment regulations.
  • Provide research capabilities for research on arthropod vectors as well as general molecular entomology research.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a bachelor's degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • M.S. degree in biology or related fields.
  • Research experience with molecular biology, vector biology or virology.
  • Experience rearing and manipulating insects, particularly flies.
  • Experience working in enhanced containment laboratories (BSL-2, ACL-2).
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques and conducting research in a laboratory setting.

Anticipated Hiring Pay Range
